If your house was built between 1978 and 1996, it is worth finding out what it is plumbed with. A large number of homes in Gwinnett, east DeKalb and the surrounding counties were built with polybutylene, a gray, cream or blue plastic pipe used heavily in that period. It fails from the inside without warning, and insurers do not like it.

What a repipe involves
It is a bigger job than most plumbing work, and anybody who quotes it over the phone without seeing the house is guessing. The cost depends on how many fixtures you have, whether the house is on a crawl space or a slab, how the existing runs were routed, and how much drywall has to be opened.

Low pressure is not always the pipe
Pressure complaints often turn out to be a failed pressure reducing valve, a partly closed main shut-off, or scale in the old galvanized nipples at the water heater. Those are much smaller jobs. We check the cheap causes first.
Main water lines
The line from the meter to the house gets ignored until the yard is wet. Depending on where the leak is and what the line runs under, that is either a spot repair or a full replacement.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if I have polybutylene?
It is usually gray, sometimes cream or blue, flexible, and stamped PB2110. Look at the pipe coming into the water heater or at the shut-off valves under a sink. If you are not sure, we will look for you at no charge.
PEX or copper?
Both are good. PEX is faster to install, handles freezing better and costs less. Copper is rigid and long proven. We will quote either.
Will you have to open the walls?
Some, yes. There is no repipe without access. We plan the route to keep the openings to a minimum.
How long does a repipe take?
Most houses are a few days, depending on size and access. We give you the schedule with the written price.
