Gas line installation and repair

Most gas jobs are straightforward: a run to a new range, a line out to a grill or fire pit, a sediment trap that was never installed. What they have in common is that they have to be sized for the appliance, pressure tested, and permitted where the jurisdiction requires it.

If you smell gas, leave the house and call the gas company first. Then call us.

What we handle

  • New gas lines for ranges, dryers, grills, fire pits and generators
  • Underground gas line installation
  • Gas leak location and repair
  • Sediment traps, shut-off valves and regulators
  • Whole-home gas pressure testing
  • Capping off lines for appliances being removed

Sizing matters more than people expect

A line that is undersized for what it feeds will starve the appliance. A tankless water heater will not hold temperature and a range will not reach full output. This is one of the most common problems with gas work done on the cheap. The pipe has to be sized for the total load and the distance it runs.

Pressure testing

New work is pressure tested before it goes into service. If you have an older house and the gas system has never been tested, it is a reasonable thing to have done.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a permit for a gas line?

Usually yes for new runs. Requirements vary by county and city. We will tell you what your jurisdiction needs. Permit fees are billed at cost.

Can you run a line for a generator or fire pit?

Yes. Both are common jobs. Generators in particular need the line sized correctly for the load or they will not run properly under demand.

Can you connect the appliance as well?

Yes, where the appliance is a standard gas connection. We pressure test the line either way.
